Congratulations to (my big mate) Sir Salman Rushdie

Sir Salmon Rushdie (left (heh)) and, much more importantly, moi (right).

I hate this picture of me (I was just a little bit sloshed) but I think it's pretty good of the man himself. Six years ago now - ah, how time flies. It always amazes me how these famous people look so much like themselves in real life. I always expect them to look a little more ordinary - as if part of what they look like is something they can apply like a mask.

Oh what a public service budget!

Great on principle; bad on public service funds.

He's made millions, but what has he paid back to society? Come on Rushdie, start the flow...

I don't think I'd have recognized you with the short hair.

I'm often amazed how LITTLE in height some celebrities/famous folk are...
although I cant think of a single example just now!

Love the shade of purple, Clare.
Your post reminds me of the headline in the Oxford Mail "Man dies with prince".

Small celebs: according to an interview in the times, David Tennant (Dr Who). Or maybe it is the other one (Captain Jack). One of them, or maybe both, anyway. Confused enough for you?

Yes Maxine, reading it again it doesn't make much sense, does it? Someone has been at my brain with a mixer, I'm afraid. Again.

And yes, Jan - they seem too short in real life too. Too short and looking just like they do on the TV all shiny and perfect and with the same clothes.

Debra - yes a lot of people say that. It is the ravages of time too of course.

Thanks Susangelique! I thought it was too at the time.

CFR: I had a teacher who was awarded a gong but he refused to accept it. I think he thought the rewards he got from doing his job well was enough of a reward in itself. A hugely principled man.

Wrinkles make our bodies more interesting. That's my line, and I'm holding to it.

Cute typo, second time around. Could be a character in children's book: Sir Salmon.

I'm always doing that, Marly! Don't put 'salmon', I think. And do.

Strange thing is - when that photo was taken I thought I looked old. Now I think I look quite young. Sometimes I look at my face to try and decide what has made it look older and the answer I think is jowls.

Signed. Mrs Trout (retired).

Not trying to imply anything but Rushdie's kind of hooded eyelids always give me quite a sinister impression.

Jowls?

I have inspected your new picture and see no jowls.
