Wegener in German

Today I heard that my Wegener book is going to be translated into German by Dielmann Verlag. I have dreamt about this happening for a long time and am, of course, delighted. The publisher came across my work on the internet. Another good reason for blogging.

Today's Style Tip:
Dates should generally contain commas unless you write it like this: 3oth April 2007, which Strunk and White recommends is the best way. So I shall do that in future.

Today's Word:
behemoth = huge, monstrous creature.

Dear Clare,

Strunk and White good but beware: I think they are American, so this island English (what we used to think of as the "United Kingdom")' or English-English has to be respected, if old school. So please don't lose your pure English pedantry in your enthusuiasm for this book's outpourings...

Congrats on the German deal! What a great day! Enjoy it. And tomorrow and beyond...

Such good news. And encouraging about the internet, since lately I'm rather tired of blogging.

Lee,
I have an old copy of The Style Guide published by The Economist (1991).
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Economist-Style-Guide/dp/1861973462/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201781039&sr=1-7
It looks like the most recent update was in 2001 & I'd guess that things may have changed...

I've had your Wegener book on various wish/wait lists for ages now. I'm getting impatient. I think I need to buy it!

I once played a roleplay game where my character was attacked by a behemoth - and it was a huge monstrous moth!!!

Jem -Just been reading about moths in a slightly odd connotation - apparently the Navajo call epilepsy moth-fever because they first saw it in the butterfly people of their mythology. They thought it was caused by incest.

Not sure why I'm mentioning this - but I do like the idea of a big monster moth.

And very kind of you to say you want to read my Wegener book!

Clare, that comment you just wrote about moths is too fascinating to relegate to a comment! I hope you "hoist it up" into the posts at some point.
At Nature we always use the style 30 June 2008 because of the US/English dating problem.
As a result, I have come to hate those little "ths".

Yes, Petrona, I know exactly what you mean about those ths. I resent them too - and remember doing so at school.

And very glad you're interested about the moth-fever. The medicine of the Navajo seems quite fascinating to me. I shall find out more and write a proper post.
