Written Britain
I am looking forward to seeing this in April: Melvyn Bragg touring the written history of Britain - the North, the Midlands, Scotland and London. I hope already that there is a second series planned - otherwise I suspect there may be a Welsh, Irish, Cornish and 'Wessex' outcry. Anyway, it looks good; I shall have to get the instruction book to remind myself how to switch on the TV.

Thanks for the link, Clare. It certainly looks good and I will watch it, even if the timing is late at night. Are book readers also insomniacs?
But as you say, many may be up in arms at the omissions. No Wales. Thus I ask, given the industrial revolution focused on the Midlands, why no Alexander Cordell with his "Rape of the Fair Country"?
Bragg didn't head west to the south west of England either. Surely Daphne Du Maurier deserved recognition here?
Anything that purports to having readers in mind often misses a beat. And we see it here.
I think there will have to be a second series, CFR.
