THE HOUSE IN PARIS by Elizabeth Bowen

Just finished THE HOUSE IN PARIS. It turned out to be fabulously intense book, with a very interesting structure. The first part set the scene for the main tragedy that occurred ten years earlier. The last part returned to the children; but because I then knew so much more about the genesis of one of the children I read more intently.

It's a satisfying book, and incredibly involving and moving. At the end of it I feel so exhausted I can't say much. It was demanding - a quick google reveals that some people likened it to a Henry James - but definitely worth the effort. Even if it does take you four months to finish.
