Seven Questions

Last year I enjoyed myself answering some questions. This year I have made up some more. If anyone else feels like answering them too, please let me know so I can take a look.

What can I fit in the space between the stars?

What is the first thing you know that you saw?

Can I really smell the rain?

When does white noise become dark?

Where did you leave your favourite dream?

How can I stop feeling the lashing of a tongue?

Why do some words stain with an indelible ink; while others leave no mark at all?

Great questions Clare - the sort I could fall into and never get out of! My recent thoughts have turned to questions too - I'm working on a post - there must be something in the air - maybe the word 'July' sounds like a question?

I have taken a stab at answering the questions you posed, with limited success.

What can I fit in the space between the stars?
Time.

What is the first thing you know that you saw?
Myself.

Can I really smell the rain?
Only during the night.

When does white noise become dark?
On Tuesdays.

Where did you leave your favourite dream?
In Neuville-de-Poitou ; she's 9 years old now, and she lives with her mother.

How can I stop feeling the lashing of a tongue?
Drink scotch.

Why do some words stain with an indelible ink; while others leave no mark at all?
It all depends on the light.

Thank you for your answers, I've loved reading them all...and replied on your blogs...except for Gilles's, which are quite gorgeously poetic. Thank you!

I like this one, but I had to think about it quite a lot.

What can I fit in the space between the stars?
Colour.

What is the first thing you know that you saw?
Light.

Can I really smell the rain?
No, I smell what it touches when it lands.

When does white noise become dark?
When it's heavy rock.

Where did you leave your favourite dream?
In my memory outbox.

How can I stop feeling the lashing of a tongue?
By relaxing.

Why do some words stain with an indelible ink; while others leave no mark at all?
Because of what they mean.

Ha, quite a different approach, CFR! Like something Sherlock Holmes would deduce - very appropriate for a crime reader.

I also answered these at Twitter, so you will find them at your replies page...but I will give you my answers here as well...

What can I fit in the space between the stars? What can't fit in the space between the stars?

What is the first thing you know that you saw? A large green, sort of wooded, parklike area in Columbus, Ohio, in 1960.

Can I really smell the rain? Yes. The rain has things you can smell besides water, so while it's a trick question, yes.

When does white noise become dark? When it becomes an unwitting reminder of a long lonely emptiness.

Where did you leave your favourite dream? I left it in the same place as all my other disappointed ideals.

How can I stop feeling the lashing of a tongue? By using the criticism to become a better person.

Why do some words stain with an indelible ink; while others leave no mark at all? Some words are truer than others...

I enjoyed these questions, and you should include links to the previous ones...

Lovely answer to the noise question, Douglas - the rest, I think, are a satisfying and interesting blend of the scientific and philosophical. Thank you very much for making me think too.

Aquarius - I've replied on your blog. Thank you very much too.

it's taken me a month but I've finally answered the questions. They're on my website at www.eileenwiedbrauk.com/portfolio_sheasksquestions.html You can't comment there although I'm about to post on my blog (http://speakcoffeetome.blogspot.com) about both the site and the question answering.

Thanks for this great prompt!
